Question: Water in the saucer
Dear editor, I have always wondered if it is appropriate or not to leave some water in the saucer of my houseplants. What do you think about it? Francesca (VB)
Water in the saucer: Answer: Water in the saucer
Dear Francesca, it is not possible to answer your question unambiguously. it can be said that it is better to avoid water stagnation because it can cause root diseases, and above all in winter. Only particular species (eg papyrus) need a lot of water. In summer, however, if the plants are outside in a sunny position, a reserve of water in the saucer can be used to avoid dehydration. But water stagnation is generally inadvisable.
