Apple variety Aport, high-yielding, with large souvenir fruits of excellent taste

The first mentions of the ancient variety date back to the 12th century, after 500 years they spoke of it as the oldest, most famous and widespread. There are disputes about the origin of the apple tree Aport to this day, Italy, Ukraine, Turkey are called its homeland. In the 9th century, at exhibitions of horticultural achievements, the fruits of the tree were represented by Russia and repeatedly won prizes.

Features and characteristics

In industrial gardening, the variety has been replaced by new ones, more resistant to diseases and natural disasters, but every amateur gardener still dreams of growing a fragrant fruit weighing half a kilo, or even more, on his site.

The apple variety Aport is classified as late-ripening or winter. Fruiting begins late, at the age of 7-8, but it lasts for over 40 years.

Aport pleases with a bountiful harvest in a year, up to 150 kg of apples can be harvested from one tree.

The apple tree is larger than average in size, the crown forms a sparse, but powerful. Strong branches extend from the trunk at a steep angle.

Each fruit receives a sufficient amount of light, during the ripening period it acquires a bright color and becomes very juicy. The apples are delicious, sweet and sour, with a wine aftertaste.

Ripening period - the second half of September. Fruits are transportable, shelf life in a cellar or refrigerator is 4 months.

Disadvantages of the variety

The problems of the variety are:

  • Low frost resistance, trees can freeze out even in the temperate zone of the middle zone. Gardeners argue that wintering problems can be prevented by grafting Aport on frost-resistant varieties.
  • Irregular fruiting, which is fully compensated by the abundance of large fruits in good years.
  • Relative resistance to scab and fruit rot.

Varieties of varieties

The apple tree has many clones that differ from the Aport variety in frost resistance, color and fruit taste. We will indicate them in the table.

Clones varietiesThe main differences
AlexanderDiffers in yellow pulp and a more pronounced speckled-striped pattern on the peel of the fruit
Blood redThe color of the peel is intense red, medium-grained pulp with a spicy aftertaste. Fruiting cycle - four-year
Alma-AtaThe fruit with a bright red blush, retains its taste until May, apples grown at an altitude of at least 900 m and no more than 1200 m above sea level have the best qualities. Fruit weight can reach 900g
WhiteVery productive summer variety, yellowish fruit, with loose juicy pulp, weight - 300 500 g

Less common clones Pink, Ukrainian, Shiny, Huge.

Planting and leaving

When planting a tree, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • the best soil for the apple tree Aport is drained loam;
  • the landing site should be well lit by the sun, the depth of groundwater is more than 1 m, otherwise it will be necessary to create an artificial hill from fertile soil and equip a drainage system;
  • the deepening of the neck of the tree below ground level should not be allowed;
  • a mixture of peat, humus or compost with fertile soil is introduced into the planting pit to increase the fertility of the soil.

Next, you will need to follow the simple rules of care:

  • systematically remove weeds from the root circle and loosen the soil;
  • in dry hot weather, water the seedling 1-2 times a week, it is recommended to add at least 20 liters of water;
  • to reduce moisture loss, the trunk circle can be covered with a layer of mulch.

Be sure to apply fertilizers:

  • Mineral, saltpeter (30 g per 10 l of water) or 100 g of superphosphate in combination with 60 g of potassium per 10 l of water are used as root spring dressings.
  • As a summer dressing: 45 g of nitrophoska and 10 g of sodium humate, dissolved in 10 liters of water.
  • As foliar - use a urea solution (30 g per 10 l of water).
  • Slurry and chicken manure solution can be used as organic root dressings.

Aport, like other varieties of apple trees, requires systematic pruning:

  • The first is carried out immediately after planting, it stimulates growth and emergence of shoots.
  • Then, for 3 years, corrective pruning is carried out to form the crown.
  • Regular sanitary pruning is carried out to dilute the crown.
  • A mature tree requires anti-aging pruning.

Disease prevention, pest control

The Aport variety is not particularly resistant to scab, so it is recommended to prophylactically sprinkle apple trees with a solution of copper sulfate (50 g) and urea (300 g) per 10 liters of water.

If the scab has already been found, then the tree is processed:

  • 7% urea solution;
  • 1% solution of copper sulfate;
  • HOM preparation (40 g per 10 l of water).

It can be sprayed before flowering and during fruit setting.

The moth is a dangerous pest for the apple tree. To combat it, a solution of chlorophos (20 g per 10 l of water) or karbofos (30 g per 10 l) is used.

In case of damage to green aphids, they are treated with a 0.3% solution of entobacterin.

Spraying from pests is carried out every 2 weeks, 3 weeks before harvesting, treatments are canceled.
